Property sales statistics for Madeira Island, Portugal mainland and the archipelago of Açores as revealed by the INE (NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STATISTICS) and audited by the Ministry of Justice show a 16% decrease in the number of transactions concluded in 2009 when compared to 2008. 65% of all transactions were concluded by licenced Brokers/agents. Only up till recently was this percentage 50%. The 15% increase reflects consumers are more and more opting to do business with professionals who are serious about what they do. Furthermore this shows that the industry is moving towards more real transparency mode as there have been a lot of market distortions.
