MADEIRA ISLAND’S SUNNY CLIMATE HAS 3 THOUSAND HOURS OF SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE PER ANNUM
Madeira Island has been the first region to pioneer renewable energy in the whole of Portugal during the last 25 years with a notable increase in awareness and interest in the challenge for solar photovoltaic systems; this was announced recently at a presentation of the “ATLAS DA RADIAÇÃO SOLAR DA REGIÃO AUTÓNOMA DA MADEIRA” (Solar Radiation Atlas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira) – a joint project between LREC (Regional Laboratory for Civil Engineering) and the University of Vigo in Spain with the support and collaboration of the local Meteorology Institute of Madeira. An appeal was made to the public to deal only with duly certified companies specializing in the area in order to guarantee functionality of systems. The Regional Secretary of Social Equipments appealed for a larger adhesion to renewable energies by the public and stressed that ongoing support for same shall be upheld in the Region.
