MADEIRA ISLAND’S GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION IS IMMUNE TO THE INFLUX OF ILLEGAL REFUGGES ARRIVING IN EUROPE.

Madeira Island’s geographical location immune to the influx of the numerous and increasing number of illegal refugees arriving in the continent of Europe from the North of Africa.

Latest reports from the High Commissioner of refugees (ACNUR) of the O.N.U  indicate a substantial increase over the last 10 months of the influx of illegal refugees crossing the Mediterranean from the North of Africa into Europe.  This year’s figures alone reflected a total number of 30 000 refugees arriving on the Italian coastline as opposed to 19000 during 2007.  Malta has registered a number of 2600 clandestine refugees between January and end of October this year as opposed to 1800 in 2007. According to the ACNUR as many as 509 people on their way to Malta and Italy lost their lives or were declared missing during their journey across the Mediterranean.  Reports from Greece and Spain show the same tendancy – more than 15000 immigrants arrived on the Greek Islands and Peloponeso between January and July of this year.  10,700 illegal immigrants also reported having arrived in the Canary Islands and on the Spanish Coastal beaches up to end of October as opposed to 9100 during the same period in 2007.

When it comes to investing in Real Estate, location is always the number one priority.

History reflects that property values in the settling and surrounding areas within countries suffering from major influxes of illegal residents show a downward trend.

Madeira Island in Portugal has historically been a privileged and safe haven for property investment and/or retirement and second home investments in this regard, given its geographical location in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
