PARKS AND GARDENS IN FUNCHAL – MADEIRA RANKS FIRST IN PORTUGAL

This week the local Funchal Municipality (CMF) announced the creation of a further 3 green space garden areas namely in the suburbs of São Martinho, Pico dos Barcelos and Fortaleza do Pico – all in the city of Funchal. Earlier this week at the local 11th annual Funchal Flower City event, the President of CMF announced that the gardens project for São Martinho would commence soon, Pico dos Barcelos project is scheduled for 2009 whilst negotiations for the acquisition of land in Fortaleza do Pico are still under way. According to the president of the town council, Funchal has a total of 540 hectares of green spaces and over 1200 hectares of Ecological parklands.
