PORTO SANTO ATTRACTS GROWING DEMAND FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Porto Santo Hotel’s brand new Geo-medicine Spa Centre opened its doors at the beginning of this month to positive international interest!  Norwegians were the centre’s very first clients to experience the unique beneficial qualities of the special local golden sand treatment.   Promotion of this specialised rheumatic treatment is also being divulged in Europe by means of several publicity media channels including personal recommendations by specialist pathologists in the field which has created a remarkable interest. Up until May 2009, at least 2000 people are expected to be treated from Norway alone.  Promotion has also been spread to the UK and other European countries including the national and local market. Given the tremendously positive response received, demand is expected to exceed expectations. The only one of its kind in the world, the geo-medical spa centre offers a two-week special treatment involving twice daily sand immersion half hour sessions resulting in the relief of arthritic and rheumatic pains for a min period of at least 9 months afterwards.   The sand on this tiny island is known for its therapeutic properties particularly in alleviating arthritis and rheumatism.  Added to that Porto Santo’s natural climate and slow paced, laid back lifestyle are perfect conditions for relaxation and complete rejuvenation of energies.

Porto Santo has been called Madeira's best kept secret and a “summer playground” for Madeirans who have for centuries owned a second home on the island.  For those planning on living in Madeira Island, Porto Santo is two and a half hour’s away via ferry and 15 mins’ by plane.

Thalassotherapy is another wellness treatment available in Porto Santo – for further information on the best equipped thalassotherapy centre in the country and the only one available in Porto Santo  - visit the The Baleira Thalassa & Spa website.
