MADEIRA ISLAND – PORTUGAL – FUNCHAL HARBOUR - HOSTS THE WORLD’S LARGEST CRUISE SHIP ONCE MORE – THIS TIME WITH RECORD NUMBER OF TRAVELLERS ON BOARD.
Madeira Island in Portugal has always been a popular destination for cruise liners docking into the amphitheatre harbour in Funchal.
This morning saw the docking once more of the world’s largest cruise liner, The Independence of the Seas – this time carrying 3787 travellers on board from 40 different countries worldwide. The magnificent vessel is the first cruise-liner ever to date to have brought this record amount of visitors to Funchal on one single cruise ship only. The liner will leave this evening onto the Canary Islands before cruising to Florida.
Lucky trans-Atlantic voyagers enjoy extraordinary views when sailing in and out of the horse-shoe shaped harbour of Funchal. The stunning topography and mountainous terrain which funnels up from the harbour area to almost 5000 feet is most evident when travelling by sea and a splendid spectacle to observe both day and at nigh-time.
MADEIRA ISLAND IS NOT ONLY AN EXCLUSIVE LOCATION FOR CRUISE-LINERS – BUT ALSO AN IDEAL HAVEN FOR THOSE PLANNING ON RETIRING OR INVESTING IN A SECOND HOME.
