Madeira Island has another yellow sandy beach – this time in the town of Machico.
The whole of the seafront stretch in Machico has been enticingly enhanced by the recently completed revamp project!
The transformation boasts a brand new sea-walk promenade, marina, fine restaurants with esplanades, hyper-market and shopping centres as well as a fine yellow sandy beach! As in Calheta Beach to the West of the island, the yellow sand was also imported from Morocco.
The revamp is certainly good news for present local residents and future property investors in the areas and surrounds of Machico, Gaula, Santa Cruz and Santo da Serra who will naturally stand to benefit from these improved and attractive new services and facilities. In addition to the great seafront revamp project, earlier on this year a brand new multi-use sports and entertainment facility centre in Água de Pena was also built at sea level, directly underneath the airport runway. This venue has hosted a number of very successful live music shows and concerts of late.
Machico is the second largest town of Madeira Island and the oldest settlement. Located on the south-eastern coastline of Madeira, Machico is known to have been the very first town where humans first landed all the way back in 1419 when the island was first discovered. It has been said that its name originated from an Englishman called Robert Machin who was shipwrecked here with his mistress in 1344.
