Ribeira Brava’s Municipal Town Council's president confirmed this week that the area’s municipal tax rates will remain the same for the 2009 year. Presently the IMI tax on older urban real estate (i.e. houses construction and land) is calculated at 0.8% on the tributary value and for rustic properties at the rate of 0.80% whilst for newer properties registered after the 13th November 2003, a rate of 0,35% is applicable – same according to the determined Municipal Property Tax Code – CIMI - (“Código de Imposto Muncipal sobre imóveis”). IMI taxes are calculated at far less than property market values.
